We went on a day trip to the famous town in Austria, Hallstatt, but were so overwhelmed by crowds and overtourism that we soon changed plans.

Hallstatt, Austria ... evening walk through this UNESCO-listed village, where winding streets, centuries-old wooden houses, and stunning mountain views create a magical atmosphere.

When looking at a map of Austria ... which is the summit of the mountain, Sorgschrofen. In fact, the mountain is so difficult to traverse that the village is only accessible via Germany.

So, on a recent monthlong trip to Germany and Austria, we took a day trip from Salzburg to explore the village ... mountain water to taste. Looking back, I'm still glad we stopped at Hallstatt.
