Hainan Airlines, returning to the airport, has added this new destination to its route map today, operating the 8,499-kilometre sector with its 787 Dreamliners.

Hainan is headquartered in Haikou and operates a hub from the city’s airport. It connects HAK with 33 domestic and 6 international points at present, providing some weekly 63,300 departure seats.

The Japan Airlines unit, which operates Boeing 787-8s, already serves three North American destinations: Los Angeles, San Jose, and San Francisco.

On June 12, the London-bound Boeing 787 crashed 32 seconds after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport in India. All but one of the 242 people on board were killed, as well as 19 on the ground.
