the Great Cypress Swamp. At one time, the 50,000-acre swamp sprawled throughout Sussex County and Maryland’s Wicomico and Worcester counties, serving as the headwaters of the Pocomoke River.

The proposed Great Dismal Swamp National Heritage Area is in the middle of a three-year feasibility study process. That includes a public comment period, which is open now until May 19th.
