Despite the morning rain, there were plenty of people at the West Des Moines United Methodist Church Stand. They're a breakfast staple at the fair and have been serving fair meals for 75 years.

The agreements are part of the United Methodist Church's disaffiliation plan, or exit plan, passed during the 2019 General Conference, with a sunset clause of Dec. 31, 2023.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Nearly five dozen more Iowa United Methodist Churches are leaving the denomination. Fifty-nine Iowa churches disagreed and will no longer be a part of the UMC.
