FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat says he is taking legal action against the Fulton County Commission to get the funds he needs to effectively do his job.
"As of March 25, 2025, there were 144 vacant positions in the Sheriff’s Office, with the largest number of vacancies in the roles which provide detention services," the county said.
Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Chief of Staff Michael Shoates says other issues have caused the funding discrepancy, aside from overtime and that they need the $2.1 million to fill a funding gap.
