GLEN ARBOR, MI -- The expansive Lake Michigan view from the top of Sleeping Bear Dunes is priceless, but what if you need a rescue trip up from the bottom? Well, that may cost you $3,000.
Sleeping Bear Dunes has around two-thirds of the staff typically there this time of year, according to the Glen Arbor Sun and WLUC-TV. Tucker, the superintendent, didn't elaborate.
The Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes purchased a Van Raam Opair Wheelchair Bike for public use. The OPair has a seat for the wheelchair user/passenger affixed to the front of the bike.
EMPIRE, Mich. — Just like the ever-shifting sands, the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive’s Lake Michigan Overlook is going to appear different this year at the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
He conceived the idea of a road to the top of the dunes. Planning for the road began in the early 1960s and, in 1967, the road, then known as the Sleeping Bear Dunes Park, first opened to the public.
In 1977, the road became part of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Several years later, based on public opinion, the drive was named the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive.
You can walk right to the Sleeping Bear Dune Climb and Glen Lake. Bikers can enjoy various trails to Lake Michigan, Glen Haven, Glen Arbor, and Empire. Reservations are now available!
