Those bases are Fort A.P. Hill, Fort Pickett and Fort Robert E. Lee in Virginia, Fort Gordon in Georgia, Fort Hood in Texas, Fort Polk in Louisiana and Fort Rucker in Alabama.

For example, Fitz Lee was born in Dinwiddie County in central Virginia, while Robert E. Lee was born in Westmoreland County, part of Virginia’s Northern Neck and more than 100 miles from Dinwiddie.
