Flint Assembly, which has approximately 4,600 hourly and salaried employees, was built in 1947 off Van Slyke Road, making it GM’s longest-running assembly plant in North America.
Prior to this, GM announced a $579 million investment into its Flint Engine plant for producing the Gen Six engines.
GM announced last year it is investing more than $21 million in the plant to accommodate the new truck production. Rouse says GM will now add another $6.5 million in improvements to move a motor line.
Separate facilities in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Flint, Michigan, and Ontario, Canada, also build the two models. However, only the Fort Wayne and Silao sites build the 1500 variants of the Chevy and GMC.
