Meteorite that crashed into Georgia home is believed to have originated from the main asteroid belt, making it 4.56 billion years old

A meteorite that plummeted into the roof and living room of a house in McDonough, Georgia, has now been found to be 20 million years older than Earth. Researchers who examined fragments of the broken meteorite now think that its parent body split from a monster asteroid (which formed before Earth) about 470 million years ago.

A meteorite "crash landed" in Georgia on June 26. Particles that tore through the roof of a home in Henry County, Georgia, 31 miles southeast of Atlanta, were donated to a planetary geologist at the University of Georgia (UGA) to figure out where it came from and its classification, according to an Aug. 8 press release published by the university.
