A glider pilot has died in a crash during take-off. The London Gliding Club, based at Dunstable Downs, Bedfordshire, said there was a "serious accident" at about 12:30 BST on Wednesday.

In 1947 they acquired their own transport at the lime works. As a boy I used to go up onto the Dunstable Downs to watch the gliders. Before the war we used to help launch them with an elastic rope.
