Nobody likes bug bites. They are often itchy ... Black widow spider bites produce a sharp pricking sensation, which develops into a dull ache or numbness. Two red fang marks may also be visible.
The orbital ring is a dull yellow. Presently considered monotypic; however, there have been two subspecies described: americanus in eastern North America and occidentalis in the Southwest.
