A Drummers World in Eastern North Carolina is a non-profit that helps Black children, teens avoid trouble, crime through drumline, music and dance.

It’s all sprung from Ray Washington Jr., who founded the marching band. As a Morgan State student, he performed for four years in the drumline of the university’s Magnificent Marching Machine.
The personal commitment of time is enormous. With drumline rehearsals, full marching band rehearsals and the game itself, a SMB drummer puts in about 22 hours per week, besides individual practicing.
