Heavy rain swept across parts of the U.S. Northeast on Monday night, inundating sections of New York and New Jersey with flash flooding that stranded vehicles in roadways, closed subway lines.

The storm hit just 11 days after a violent thunderstorm with strong winds killed three people and knocked down trees and power throughout Central Jersey, including parts of the same towns that suffered flooding on Monday. Some of those towns were still cleaning up from the July 3 storm when the new storm hit.
