My HDTV has a VGA slot on it, but I still opt to go with the DVI -> HDMI connection just fore the full resolution digital connection. Don't let the simplicity fool you, it is still the best solution.
In full, the DVI connection contains a grid of 24 connections and a smaller secondary section for analog signals. Depending on the type of DVI connection, some of these pins may be missing.
It’s also worth noting that converting a DVI output to HDMI with an adapter will not make it HDCP-compliant if the DVI connection wasn’t in the first place.
