Over time, the school moved buildings and later added a convent in 1890. St. Alphonsus High School opened in the early 1920s, with the first graduating class in 1926.

Early in the evening on August 11, St. George allowed a fact-finding mission: Prominent men toured the convent and found nothing amiss and Harrison apparently happy and fine.

The convent was closed on June 30 with the remaining Sisters in residence moving to Our Lady of Peach Residence at Marywood University and St. Mary of Mount Carmel Convent in Dunmore.

Most women in the St. Anthony’s Convent are in their 30s, an unheard-of number to so many other orders. Brigid believes it may speak to the importance of their mission.
