The Royal Gorge Route Railroad is based in Cañon City, a small town about 45 miles southwest of the state's second largest city, Colorado Springs. The railroad traces back to the late 19th century.

It offers stunning views of Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs. It was closed for renovations for over three years, but reopened in 2021, offering visitors the best adventure in the area.

Colorado claims at least 40 rail trails, according to the conservancy’s TrailLink app (traillink.com). Many of our regional rail trails wind through iconic locales and jaw-dropping settings.
