Five alumni have given Colgate University a total of $105 million, including a $50 million donation from Peter Kellner, the largest single gift in Colgate’s history.

FARGO — The nearest big city is Syracuse, N.Y., and it’s only 40 miles away. There is not much metro about Colgate University, nestled in the rolling hills of the small community of Hamilton, N.Y.

In addition to Kellner’s gift, the university announced that Jean-Pierre L. Conte, a 1985 Colgate graduate, has donated $25 million to name the building that will anchor the Lower Campus.

Colgate's Third-Century Plan, launched during the University's Bicentennial celebration in 2019, includes the completion of the Residential Commons system and the Lower Campus as initial priorities.
