Two states and the largest cities within them had nearly opposite reactions after President Trump reiterated his plans to withhold all federal funds from areas in the country that have policies limiting local law enforcement cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

Sanctuary cities and states have begun responding to President Donald Trump's threat of revoking their federal funding if they maintain their policies. Officials in California and New York told Newsweek that they will continue to protect immigrants in their communities but also made it clear they will not hinder the federal government's enforcement operations.
