Uber will roll out its new "women preferences" in three cities at launch to test the new functionality for drivers and riders.

Thanks to a new feature coming first to these three US cities, women riders can choose to be matched with women drivers - and vice versa.

Uber is piloting a "Women Preferences" feature in LA, SF, and Detroit, empowering women riders and drivers to connect exclusively with other women.

In a Wednesday statement, Uber said that women customers will see an option called "women drivers" in the app. If the wait time for a woman driver is longer than they would like, they can pick another ride — presumably with a male driver — for a quicker pickup,
