CHINCHINIM, Goa, India — Seven young men sprinted down paths, darting behind houses and vaulting low walls. Each one carried a long-handled net.

The bank, located at the Goa government's agriculture farm in Durga, will house 32 distinct mango cultivars. This bank is the second in Goa, with another one already established in North Goa.

“We have planted these 32 varieties on the farm with the intent of maintaining the gene bank, else Goa’s mango heritage will be lost,” said director of agriculture, Nevil Alphonso.
