NASCAR is pausing the Chicago street race because it needs more time to try to reschedule the event and reduce the build-out and breakdown of the pop-up racecourse.

Those problems aren’t unique to Chicago, however. IndyCar has been hosting street races for years and one of Formula 1’s most famous races, the Monaco Grand Prix, is held on city streets.

NASCAR announced on Friday that the Chicago Street Race is off the calendar for 2026, with the goal of returning in 2027, though not on a weekend near the Fourth of July holiday.
