Previously she had been HCC's general counsel, holding that post since 2008. After the board hired a new chancellor, Cesar Maldonado, in April 2014, Byas returned to her job as general counsel.

In a Wednesday evening press release, the Beeville community college announced that Cesar Maldonado will serve as interim president beginning Monday through Aug. 31.
