A caste system often uses discriminatory notions of purity and contamination. It continues to have an impact on contemporary society in many areas of the world.

And thus the caste system rears its head to affect a work about the caste system in real time. This points, ultimately, to the role of personal accountability within a caste system.

Much like racism in the US, the Indian caste system is deeply rooted and systemic in nature, persisting through cultural notions and institutions even after legal discrimination was abolished.
