I noticed with interest a reference in the article by Leslee Komaiko ("Candy in Pithy Packaging," Oct. 31) about Doraemon, the ultra-popular and well-loved robot cat in Asia.

The cat is saying, “I’ve enjoyed reading your email.” Though we never see the cartoon in question, for anyone familiar with The New Yorker cartoons, it’s easy enough to imagine.

When you stroke the cartoon cat's ears, it purrs. It also talks. "The owner's hands are so warm." That's literally what it says. When it wants you to pick up food, it meows. Why? CES 2020.
