New Zealand White and Californian rabbits are the most commonly used breeds; however, 14 others are also considered viable for meat production. Let’s take a look at nine of the most commonly used.
Ukiah High raises Californian rabbits, a commercial breed used for competition and sale. These rabbits are shown at American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) shows and county fairs.
Youth ages 18 and under competed in six breeds: Californian, Holland Lop, Mini Rex, Netherland Dwarf, New Zealand and Polish. Rabbits of other breeds were shown together in a separate category.
