The dog days of summer arrived Saturday at Nationals Park. Bruce, a 21-month-old golden retriever, fetched a bat during a ceremony before the Washington Nationals-Miami Marlins game.

Bruce will fittingly join the Nationals for a “Pups in the Park” game on Saturday. Fans can purchase special tickets to receive a pet bandana, with proceeds supporting the Humane Rescue Alliance.

Bruce the Dat Dog was promoted from Triple-A Rochester to take the field for Saturday's showdown between the Washington Nationals and Miami Marlins, even getting an official patch on his bandana.

Bruce will bring his signature charm and enthusiasm as the team takes on the Miami Marlins. Bruce made the his debut in 2024, and has fetched 43 bats in just three appearances this season.
