LAKE ROOSEVELT, Wash. – A boating trip turned into a nightmare for the Marchand family after a gas can explosion on their boat left five family members with serious burns.

Avon Lake Fire Chief Jeremy Betsa told 3News that crews responded at 9:58 a.m. for the call of a capsized vessel and found the victim, a 65-year-old man, at 10:17 a.m. underneath the boat.

The boat launch and picnic area will be closed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 5. The work is being done in preparation for Saturday’s annual Aldo Leopold Kids’ Fishing Derby.
