California Senate Bill 627 would ban law enforcement from wearing masks on the job, a response to photos of ICE agents covering their faces as immigration enforcement in the state ramps up.

The bill, known as the “No Secret Police Act,” would provide an exemption for SWAT members and officers who use masks to reduce harm, including to prevent disease transmission or smoke inhalation.
