Bank of America Corp. will move its Japan headquarters to a tower under construction in central Tokyo as the Wall Street lender upgrades to a more modern, environment-friendly office.

About 1,000 Bank of America workers housed in the bank’s namesake 72-story skyscraper on Main Street will be moving to the new tower. The bank will take up about half of the project.

The bank will occupy about 238,000 square feet in the building, which is a project of developer KDC and Pacific Elm Properties. The half-million-square-foot high-rise is expected to open in 2027.
