A bear scratched a child and mother this weekend after tearing through a tent at Elkmont Campground in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park looking for food, according to the Naitonal Park Service.

The Look Rock Campground in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is being reopened after being closed for nine years. The Tennessee campground will be open through Nov. 13.

Some roads in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park have opened while many remain closed March 27 after a recent high wind event caused trees to fall over roads and trails.
