AWANA stands for "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed" and is a reference to a verse in the Bible, said Duane Schmitz, commander of the group. The verse is 2 Timothy 2:15.

The Awana Bible activity group meets each Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Nisland Independent Community Church. the will conclude their year's activities on April 25 with a final program.
