The Antonov An-124 was a heavy-lift strategic military transport the Soviets built in 1982. This aircraft was similar to the U.S.'s Lockheed C-5 Galaxy and was the basis of the An-225.

The Antonov AN-225, which was destroyed in the early stages of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, will be rebuilt to the tune of $500 million, its manufacturer has announced.

Antonov officials say another An-225 was partially built -- but abandoned in the 1990s because of a lack of funds. The current plan is to use what they already have as the basis for a new plane.

Now, Antonov is planning on resuming to build the second An-225 that was stored since 1994, when it was decided to stop its construction following the fall of the Soviet Union.
