If there’s no blue light, Alexa isn’t listening (or didn’t hear you). You might also see a brief glimmering blue light if your Echo device is receiving a software update.

You can’t completely turn off Alexa’s light ring, but (as I noted earlier) you can keep the lights to a minimum by putting your Echo speaker into Do Not Disturb mode.
