With Clemson, Miami and Louisville all on the ACC slate and nonconference battles against a pair of formidable Big 12 teams, SMU is better than its record, but won't contend for a major bowl game.

After locking in the No. 4 seed in the ACC Tournament, NC State landed three players on the All-ACC Teams along with two first-year players making the All-ACC Freshman Team.

And as the group contemplates the format — likely to be larger, either 14 or 16 teams — for 2026 and beyond, well, they’re stuck. The deadline for a decision on the 2026 format is Dec. 1.

The last thing I’ll say on the travel piece is it would help if the ACC could find a way to expand to 18-20 teams. Presently they are at 17 (16 in football with Notre Dame being independent).
