A wildfire in southwestern North Carolina was the largest active fire in the state, having spread more than 600 acres in Polk County near the South Carolina border, according to the forest service.

The largest fire in South Carolina is in Horry County, around 276 miles southeast of Table Rock, according to USA TODAY's data. The fire has set 2,059 acres ablaze and is 80% contained.
