And progress is happening fast: In 2018, construction-tech startup Icon said it had built the country's first permitted 3D-printed dwelling, a 350-square-foot unit.
Founded in late 2017, ICON launched during SXSW in March 2018 with the first permitted 3D-printed home in the U.S. That 350-square-foot house took about 48 hours (at 25% speed) to print.
Drawing on House Zero’s design and in partnership with homebuilding giant Lennar, ICON this year broke ground on the country’s largest 3D-printed community, a 100-home project in Austin.
