Private George D. Wilson, a shoemaker from Belmont County, Ohio, enlisted in the Union Army’s Company B, 2nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry on Aug. 31, 1861.

More than 150 years later, Biden posthumously honored the two on Wednesday. Wilson was born in 1830 in Belmont County, Ohio and was enlisted in a volunteer infantry in 1861.
