US copper prices plunged by as much as 20% after President Trump said he would impose 50% tariffs on imports of semi-finished copper products, but not on the raw material itself.

Copper edged 0.2% lower on the LME to $9 682 a ton as of 1:52 p.m. Shanghai time, while Comex copper was 21% lower at $4.438 a pound.
