US grocery wholesaler and retailer United Natural Foods (UNFI) has taken “certain systems” offline following a cyberattack. In a stock-exchange filing, UNFI said it had detected “unauthorised activity” on “certain” IT systems on 5 June.

The cuts come as the grocery wholesaler and main distributor to Whole Foods saw its stock plummet after announcing a cyberattack.

Transportation-related issues in the New York City area played a role in the distributor’s decision to exit its contract with the grocer and shutter a distribution center it built to serve the chain.

The bad news keeps coming for United Natural Foods Inc., as the food distributor followed the disclosure of an ongoing cyberattack by saying on Tuesday that the ending of a supply agreement would lead to the loss of hundreds of jobs.
