Twenty states had sued after federal transportation officials threatened to cut off funding to states that refused to comply with President Trump’s immigration agenda.

A federal judge has ruled that the Trump administration cannot tie transportation funding to compliance with its immigration policies. In a Thursday, June 19, ruling, Judge John McConnell issued a preliminary injunction blocking the ability of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and the Department of Transportation from linking the funds to immigration actions,

The ruling came in a lawsuit filed by a group of Democratic state attorneys general who argued the administration was seeking to unlawfully hold federal funds hostage to coerce them into adhering to the Republican president's hardline immigration agenda.
