A volley of missiles launched by Iran killed eight people and injured nearly 100 in Israel on Monday as the conflict between the two countries entered its fourth day.
At least three people were killed and scores were wounded during an aerial battle over Tel Aviv, as Iranian missiles rained down and Israeli rockets attempted to intercept them.
The death toll in an earlier strike in Bat Yam, a city adjacent to Tel Aviv, rose as more bodies were extricated from rubble, meanwhile, and a research center at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot was destroyed in a strike. On Sunday, missiles arrived during the day for the first time.
Missiles and projectiles were seen in the skies over Jerusalem and Tel Aviv early on Sunday as Tehran unleashed a fresh attack on Israel which in turn launched an expanded assault on Iran.
Israel identified and struck missile launchers in Iran overnight, the Israel Defense Forces said Sunday morning. "Over the past hour, the IAF completed an additional series of strikes on storage and missile launch infrastructure sties in western Iran," the IDF said in an update on the Telegram messaging app at about 8 a.m. in Israel.
"Another barrage of dozens of rockets was launched" towards Israel, the statement adds. The IDF says that the explosions people are hearing "originate from interceptions or impacts". We've been hearing from Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei who says Iran “will inflict heavy blows” after Israel “launched war”.
