The Lionesses will look to return to the Euros final but face a tricky Italy side after surviving a penalty shoot-out to stay alive at the tournament

The Sweden Women Euro 2025 squad have been knocked out of the competition by England on penalties.They won all of their group matches with the most impressive performance coming against Germany to top the group.

Each of the four quarter-finals brought its own unique storyline — comebacks, red cards, shootout tension and individual brilliance. What struck home was the resilience shown by eventual winners of each clash. Italy’s belief, England’s refusal to quit, Spain’s composure, and Germany’s defiance in adversity.

The European Championships quarter-final clash between England and Sweden is a repeat of the 2022 semi-final in the same competition, a game England won 4-0 en route to lifting the trophy. The English will hope it’s a similar story here after a mixed bag at the Euros thus far.

England are one game away from a second successive Euros final. Standing in their way are Italy, who are making their first semifinal appearance since 1997.
