Authorities in Scotland have canceled trains and closed parks as a rare summer storm brings destructive winds to northern Britain.

Thousands of homes have been left without power after “significant disruption” caused by Storm Floris. The Scottish Government called an emergency meeting in response to the storm as delays on rail, roads and sea continued into Tuesday. ScotRail said suspended routes would not be reopened until around 4pm.

Storm Floris wreaked havoc up and down Scotland yesterday, August 4, matching a record high for windspeed in August. Peak winds were recorded at a staggering 82mph at Wick Airport, which matched the highest ever for this month.
