Musk often talks about pushing SpaceX to compete against the limits of physics and has set ambitious latency goals for Starlink. In 2024, SpaceX disclosed that median latency for Starlink was 33 millisec., and it was aiming for 20 millisec.
Starlink is the third company to receive approval for satellite communication (satcom) services from the Department of Telecom, following OneWeb and Reliance Jio.

Eutelsat Communications SA, the European competitor to Elon Musk’s Starlink, said that the UK government will invest €163.3 million ($191 million), joining a France-led round into the company last month.
Starlink provides internet wirelessly through a network of low orbit satellite while Google's GFiber provides internet to homes through fiber optic cables.

The move comes after India’s space regulator, INSPACe, granted a five-year licence earlier this month to Starlink to operate its Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Starlink Gen1 constellation in the country.
