Lane said figure skating became an all-consuming passion for the entire family and they spent a lot of time driving Spencer to and from practices in Norwood, Massachusetts.

Christine and Spencer Lane died in a plane crash in the Potomac River. Spencer Lane was a talented 16-year-old figure skater who trained at the Skating Club of Boston.

They had just been to a development camp after the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, where they had been learning how to skate with grace and flair.
