The Cubs had extensive conversations about right-hander Michael Soroka’s drop in velocity before acquiring him at the trade deadline, president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer said Tuesday. They were well aware of his injury history.

The Chicago Cubs have placed right-handed pitcher Michael Soroka on the 15-day injured list. Soroka, who was forced to leave his Monday start against the Cincinnati Reds, was diagnosed with a right shoulder strain, and will miss several starts at minimum for the North Siders.
