The forecast threatened rain. But opening day of the second annual Minnesota Yacht Club on Friday at Harriet Island in St. Paul was a pleasing mix of overcast skies that turned a bright blue — until it wasn’t.

The last time Minneapolis musician Mike Kota played on the same stage as Hozier was in 2023, when she opened for the Irish singer-songwriter at a pop-up concert at First Avenue in Minneapolis. She played for a crowd of about 1,500 people.

The announcement from festival organizers came shortly after 10 p.m., saying: "Due to approaching weather and nearby lightning, tonight’s show has ended early. Please exit the festival grounds promptly and follow guidance from festival staff and local officials."
