Cory Hawkes, who had fished those waters his whole life without seeing a great white shark, was moving from offshore to inshore when he noticed something unusual.

Two shark sightings have caused officials to issue a warning covering part of an island in southern Maine. The Harpswell Marine Resources & Harbor Management said in a July 16 Facebook post that the great white shark sightings over 48 hours east of Bailey Island caused the agency to implement shark notification flags at Cedar Beach.
