Britain will build new attack submarines, invest billions on nuclear warheads and move toward “war-fighting readiness,” Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Monday, shortly before the publication of a landmark review of the future of the country’s military.
It could also make Moscow behave even more aggressively toward Ukraine as the two countries struggle to find common ground in peace talks.
Though the knock-on effects are unclear, some military commentators have called the strike Russia's "Pearl Harbor." Hopes for direct peace talks, which resume Monday, remain low.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer declared his Labour government would create “A battle-ready, armour-clad nation,” in which “Every part of society, every citizen of this country has a role to play.”
Some 150 droves are transported by truck to inside Russia, where swarms of drones arose from them and went on the attack.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Defense Minister Rustem Umerov would sit down with Russian officials at the second round of peace talks on Monday.
The U.K. has been reassessing its defense spending since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
