Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has commuted the death sentence of Robin “Rocky” Myers to life in prison after noting questions about his case.

Robin “Rocky” Dion Myers, a man who has long claimed innocence in the 1991 killing of a north Alabama woman, will not be put to death by Alabama. Gov. Kay Ivey announced Friday she has commuted his sentence to life in prison without the chance of parole.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey, a staunch supporter of capital punishment, has commuted the sentence of a death row inmate to life in prison — the first time she’s ever done so. Robin “Rocky” Myers, 63, an intellectually disabled man, was convicted of murder in the 1991 stabbing of his neighbor Ludie Mae Tucker, 69.
